Three ME Graduate students were honored in the second annual Art of Science exhibit, sponsored by the Schuller Lab and the Council for Science & Engineering Partnerships at the California NanoSystems Institute. The Art of Science competition challenges students and post-docs to share the excitement of scientific endeavor through the lens of artisitic aesthetic.  Submissions to the competition are reviewed by a panel of judges, as well put to a popular vote, with the ten finalists selected based on their aesthetic excellence as well as scientific or technical interest.

Kevin Hoffseth and Connor Randall, Graduate students in Chancellor Yang's research group, received third place honors for their image Bone Splitting, a black and white 10x zoom of an indentation fractured bone sample.

Prof. Sumita Pennathur's lab, received an Honorable Mention for his submission The Badlands, an image of an early attempt to synthesize novel metal-coated polymer nanoparticles that resulted in a series of intricate ridges from thin-film compressive buckling representing the famed South Dakota topography.
