ME graduate student Florian Dorfler and his advisor Francesco Bullo have won the 2010 O. Hugo Schuck Best Paper Award. Their work on "Synchronization and Transient Stability in Power Networks and Non-Uniform Kuramoto Oscillators" was selected by the American Automatic Control Council as the best paper at the 2010 American Control Conference in the Theory category.

Professor Rouslan Krechetnikov has received the prestigious CAREER award from the National Science Foundation. The award was granted for work in the area of dynamical systems and applied mathematics for Prof. Krechetnikov's research on self sustained interfacial motions. UCSB Mechanical Engineering Aluma Hana El-Samad has won the 2011 Donald P. Eckman Award. The Eckman Award is one of the most prestigious awards in control theory. It is given annually to recognize an outstanding young engineer under the age of 35 in the field of Automatic Control.  Hana will receive the award at the 2011 American Control Conference in San Francisco.The citation reads: "For novel application of control theory in the analysis and synthesis of complex biological systems."

March 1, 2011 Per Danzl is the recepient of the 2011 Best PhD Thesis Award in Mechanical Engineering at UCSB, for his dissertation entitled "Dynamical Characterization and Feedback Control of Oscillatory Neural Systems," completed in Spring 2010.
