Professor Keith Kedward Wins Prestigious AIAA-ASC Starnes Award in Structural Mechanics

Mechanical Engineering professor Keith Kedward has been honored with the 2013 James H. Starnes, Jr. Award, presented by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the American Society for Composites (ASC). The award recognizes Kedward’s significant lifelong contributions in the field of composite structural mechanics, and his devotion to the mentoring of students and colleagues. He will accept the Starnes Award on April 10, 2013 at an awards reception held in Boston.

befits his leadership in and impact on the field of structural engineering," said Rod Alferness, Dean of the College of Engineering.

Professor Kedward has been a member of the UCSB College of Engineering faculty for more than twenty years. In his career, he has held positions of technology development leadership at McDonnell Douglas, Rolls-Royce, General Dynamics Convair Division, and Alcoa. Kedward has been called upon by NASA and AIAA for design technology review as a structural mechanics expert.
