2012-13 Industry Partners
The ME Capstone Design Projects added the Industry Partner Program for the 2005/06 student projects. This program was successfully started with the generous gifts and support of ATK Space Systems, Raytheon, Medtronic Neurosurgery, and Implantech. This year's Industry Partners are noted above. Their generous gifts and support is appreciated.
Through the Industry Partner Program, a design project will be addressed by a team of 4 to 5 Senior ME students. Ideally the work will begin in September from a concept or need and will be completed by June with fabrication, testing and evaluation. There is some flexibility with this schedule and I would be glad to discuss with you.
Typical projects for you to consider would be small projects that may have been delayed by other priorities, novel test fixtures, product line extensions, or product improvements. It is my intention to manage the student teams. Each team will have a faculty adviser to assist with technical direction. They may need access and limited involvement with your technical staff and engineers. It is not my intention to burden your already busy staff and personnel.
It is my intention to create a Win-Win scenario for the students and the Industry partner. The students will have the opportunity to work on a practical design project and to interact with outside engineers. Your company will also have the ability to work directly with some of our brightest and most capable students. This provides you an opportunity for potential new hires.
I am requesting that the Industry partner identify a design project for consideration and a gift of $5,000 to the Undergraduate Mechanical Engineering Design Projects. The gift will go directly into our student budget.
As an Industry partner, your company will be invited to our afternoon Research Lecture series that is typically Mondays and Fridays from 4 to 5 pm. You will have access to the most current research being conducted here at UCSB as well as guest lecturers and visiting scholars from around the world.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I sincerely appreciate your consideration and hope that your company will participate.
