Professor Rouslan Krechetnikov and Graduate Student Hans Mayer have been awarded the 2012 Ig Noble Prize in Fluid Dynamics presented annualy by Harvard University "for studying the dynamics of
liquid-sloshing, to learn what happens when a person walks while
carrying a cup of coffee."

Professor Sumita Pennathur has been awarded the Santa Barbara Chamber of Commerce Award for Innovation. The Award for Innovation is the most prestigious award given by the Chamber of Commerce, and past winners include Chancellor Yang, Dr. Walter Kohn, and Dr. Alan Heeger.
