We are extremely saddened to share with you the news that Professor Anthony Evans passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 9, 2009, at home with his family. Professor Evans was a renowned researcher and scientist, a dedicated teacher and mentor, and a beloved campus colleague. He made enormous contributions to our university and to the world community.

A UCSB group of five senior Mechanical Engineering students (Erik Stassinos, Aleksandar Stanisic, Michael Scamardo, Quentin Orciuc and Josh Jimenez) are diligently working on a high mileage vehicle as part of their senior graduation project. Their goal is to double the mileage of five hundred miles per gallon achieved by the UCSB team who participated in last year's Shell Eco Marathon Americas event. To this purpose, they have revamped part of the design of the vehicle used last year and focused on making the engine a lot more fuel-efficient.
